# How to Make It:

01 - Cook rice according to package instructions, or use precooked rice to expedite preparation.
02 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and nearly cooked through, approximately 5 to 6 minutes.
03 - Add diced onion and red bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute additional.
04 - Sprinkle taco seasoning over the turkey and vegetables. Mix thoroughly and cook for 2 minutes. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons water if desired to help the seasoning coat the meat evenly.
05 - Divide cooked rice among four serving bowls. Top each bowl with the seasoned turkey mixture.
06 - Arrange lettuce, cherry tomatoes, avocado, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, and cilantro over each bowl according to preference.
07 - Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It comes together faster than ordering takeout, and tastes like you actually spent time in the kitchen.
  • Everyone builds their own bowl, so no one complains about what's in it.
  • Ground turkey stays lean and won't leave you feeling weighed down, even after seconds.
02 -
  • Don't add the avocado until just before serving, or it will brown and lose its appeal no matter how much lime you toss on it.
  • The seasoning works best when the turkey and vegetables are still in the pan together—mixing it in dry first, then adding a splash of water, helps it cling to everything instead of settling at the bottom.
03 -
  • If you have leftover taco seasoning, store it in a small jar and use it on roasted vegetables, eggs, or chicken throughout the week—it keeps for months.
  • Make the taco seasoning from scratch instead of buying packets, and you'll taste the difference immediately; the flavors are fresher and you control the salt level.
